2012 Democratic Party Platform Silent on Legalized Internet Gaming

pa-sweep-onlineThe 2012 Democratic Party Platform, released in anticipation of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina failed to mention the topic of legalized Internet gaming in any way. While this was not as much of a disappointment to proponents of legalized Internet gaming as the 2012 Republican Party Platform was (which explicitly called for the prohibition of any form of legalized Internet gaming), it was still of concern.

Despite the total silence on the issue in the 2012 Platform, some Democratic lawmakers have recently sponsored bills that would establish various forms of legalized Internet gaming. It remains the case that the Democratic Party has taken a friendlier posture toward legalized Internet gaming, but it will be interesting to see how the contrasting Platforms affect the legislative process going forward.
